Villagers in Thorngumbald have been campaigning to save the Royal Mail pub after plans were revealed to turn it into a Co-Operative store. The pub's owners, NewRiver Retail, applied to East Riding Council in January 2015, to have the site demolished and rebuilt into a supermarket, and lease it to the Co-Operative Group.
A steering group and the parish council have objected to the plans and change of use.
The council has also rejected attempts by the steering group to have the pub listed as an asset of community value, which could have safeguarded it against development.
A planning application to demolish the pub and build a new supermarket is still outstanding.
