Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Corstorphine, Edinburgh

Plans to build a 22,000 sq ft supermarket, café and multi-storey car park in the Corstorphine Conservation Area are about to be submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council. It will replace seven shops on the corner of St John’s Road and Manse Road, though it will have a substantially larger footprint than the current units. This is a major development in the heart of our community.

Corstorphine Residents Action & Information Group is co-ordinating a campaign to oppose these plans.

Concerns about latest supermarket plan

Pressure is growing on councillors to throw out a controversial supermarket proposal after latest pollution figures showed nitrogen dioxide levels soaring. Waitrose pulled out of plans for a new store in St John’s Road, Corstorphine, earlier this year but developers have resubmitted the application for a 21,000sq ft supermarket and say they are in talks with other chains. The proposal is expected to be discussed by councillors next week.
