Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Stourbridge, West Midlands

There has been opposition to Tesco in Stourbridge since Tesco first submitted plans in 2001. Residents and the Chamber of Commerce opposed the plans. In 2006, Dudley Council again rejected plans submitted by Tesco.

In May 2010, Tesco unveiled new plans to redevelop Crown Centre. The old Bell Street car park would be flattened to make way for a large Tesco store with mezzanine floor and underground parking for 550 cars.
