Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Erdington, Birmingham

In May 2011 plans of the new 49,590 sq ft Sainsbury’s store and 400 car parking spaces on the Colliers site were unveiled. Residents were concerned about the number of articulated lorries per day (estimated at around 12) onto already congested roads, and the building of a major delivery bay within 4 metres of established residential buildings.

In 2010 Sainsbury's and the Collier Motor Group jointly announced a land deal paving the way for two new development projects in Erdington. Subject to planning, Colliers is looking to relocate to a vacant site on the Tyburn Road (formerly Palletline), allowing Sainsbury’s to develop the current Colliers site close to Erdington’s town centre.
