In Chesterfield there is a campaign "SAVE THE CRISPIN" which is looking to challenge a change of use of a community pub to a Tesco Express. Residents have gathered a petition, against the proposals, signed by over 1,000 people.
Concerned councillors discussed the issue at their last meeting and are waiting for the results of a meeting between Save the Pub group chair Greg Mulholland and Community Pubs minister Brandon Lewis before taking any further action. The MP, Toby Perkins, has written to major supermarket chains calling on them to stop ‘predatory purchasing’ pubs up and down the country.
In March four out of six applications concerning The Crispin Inn were turned down by town planners. Two applications were approved, for the installation of various signs on site. Others - to install plant equipment, fit a cash machine, make alterations and create an extension as well as disabled access ramp - were rejected.
