Residents of the Parkhead area of Sheffield mounted a strong campaign against plans for a Tesco Express store on the site of the old Parkhead garage in Ecclesall Road South. The plans were first submitted in 2009.

Sheffield, Abbeydale Rd

In April 2009 a new Tesco Express store on Abbeydale Rd, Sheffield opened despite dozens of objection letters and two petitions with more than 1,100 signatories.

In August 2009, the Star reported that local traders have had their worst fears confirmed as sales have fallen.

 

Sheffield, Crosspool

Over 150 people from the Sheffield suburb of Crosspool objected to plans for a major retail development relating to 340, Lydgate Lane - which sits near the junction of four roads, including the A57.  City planners agreed with objectors and advised Councillors to refuse planning permission.
