Residents of the Parkhead area of Sheffield mounted a strong campaign against plans for a Tesco Express store on the site of the old Parkhead garage in Ecclesall Road South. The plans were first submitted in 2009.
A petition with 1,800 names was submitted to the Town Hall citing concerns about the implications for traffic on a busy 40mph arterial road.
Over 150 people from the Sheffield suburb of Crosspool objected to plans for a major retail development relating to 340, Lydgate Lane - which sits near the junction of four roads, including the A57. City planners agreed with objectors and advised Councillors to refuse planning permission.
