Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade opposed Tesco's plans on the basis that they are on the outskirts of the town rather than in the town centre, and that they could have a significant adverse impact on businesses in the town.

In May 2009 the Chamber launched the Hands of Our Town (HOOT) initiative.

In 2012 campaigners in Seaton Delaval continued to oppose Tesco's attempt to turn the Victoria and Albert pub into a Tesco Express with a 2,420-name petition.
