Layton, Blackpool

Residents in Layton launched a campaign to halt plans to build a new 10,000 sq ft (1,363 sq m) Tesco store and 50 car park spaces on the site of the Windmill pub. The Layton Traders Association organised a public meeting and more than 3,500 people signed a petition against the proposal.

 

Padiham, Lancashire

Traders in Padiham opposed plans for a 30,000 square feet Tesco store. The local traders association, Padiham Town Centre Partnership, set up a campaign to raise awareness about the plans.

However, Tesco appealed against the refusal decision and a public inquiry was held in July.
