Tesco wants to open an Express store in Royston. The building is in a conservation area. The Town Council objected to all four applications.

In June 2011 Sainsbury’s held a public exhibition to reveal plans for an extension at its Poplars store. This came very soon after agreement by Stevenage Borough Council to allow a near doubling of the square footage of the Sainsbury’s Corey’s Mill site. The plans would double the sales area of the store from just under 30,000 square feet to nearly 60,000.
