In December 2009 Tesco announced plans to almost double the size of its Axminster store.

Residents and traders opposed the scheme but in November 2010 District Council planners recommended Councillors approve the expansion, but with a long list of conditions to limit any disturbance to nearby residents.

Babbacombe, Devon

Plans for a Morrisons supermarket at the former Focus DIY site in Babbacombe have been thrown out. A planning inspector has ruled the proposed Morrisons store would affect shopping areas in Babbacombe, St Marychurch and Wellswood. He also ruled the town hall car park site would be a better site for a supermarket.

The decision comes after a five-day public inquiry in October.
