Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Westgate-On-Sea, Kent

Plans for a 2,885 sq ft Tesco store in Westgate-On-Sea have been recommended for approval by the planning officer despite residents voicing fears over the impact on the area's Victorian character, local trade, traffic and road safety.

A campaign group was set up to oppose the plans and collected 2,500 signatures on a petition against the development and 529 letters of objection received by Thanet District Council.
