Tesco starts work on store

Tesco is starting work on the former Cattle Market site that has been earmarked for a new store.The work that is already underway comes more than six years after the original idea of a Tesco supermarket in the town was first raised at a public meeting in the town.

Councillors thinks project will be delayed until 2017

At the beginning of this year Dave Lewis, the chief executive of Tesco, wrote to the local Member of Parliament Harriett Baldwin and councillors re-affirming the intention of the store to go ahead with its plans for Tenbury.

Malvern District Council turned down Tesco's application to demolish the Russell Baldwin & Bright building as they decided demolition would harm the town's conservation Area. As a result Tesco withdrew its planning application.
