Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Skipton, North Yorkshire

Plans by Tesco to demolish its existing store and build one nearly double the size met significant opposition from residents and traders in the town. Concerns came from residents, the Civic Society, and some Councillors, and focused on impact on trade, traffic, and the design and appearance of the building which would be on a conservation area.
