Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Skelton, Teeside

In August 2011 developer Terrace Hill said it had pre-let a site in Skelton to Asda on a 25-year lease.

In December the Co-operative announced it would be seeking a judicial review into the planning consent of the development on the grounds that it believes the planning committee didn't receive all the relevant information. In March, His Honour Judge Andrew Gilbart QC declared the Co-op’s claim as “hopeless”.

In May the Co-op confirmed they have no future plans to block the development. Please see an article at the gazettelive.co.uk, 3rd May 2012.
