Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Scotforth, Lancashire

In Spring 2010, developers Commercial Estates Projects submitted an application for a development in Scotforth, near Lancaster. The application included a supermarket, hotel, and petrol station.

Protesters gathered in March 2011 outside Booths, who had also applied for planning permission for a supermarket.

Commercial Estates Projects Appeal dismissed

Commercial Estates Projects appealed the decision. The Secretary of State, Eric Pickles dismissed the appeal.

Booths approved, Commercial Estates rejected

Booths application was approved by Lancaster City Council. However, the Commercial Estates Projects development was rejected by the planning committee.
