Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Save Swains Lane, Highgate

In August 2012 a campaign was launched against plans to demolish a parade of shops in Swains Lane and build a large chain supermarket in Highgate.

The site is currently home to a greengrocer’s, a florist, a car wash, a café, a deli and an off-licence. The site is owned by the Earl of Listowel who has tried to redevelop it twice in the past but failed after strong local opposition. He has now employed property developer Nathaniel Lichfield.

A group Save Swains Lane has been set up to oppose the plans.
