A campaign group has been set up in Ripley to oppose plans for a 40,000 sq ft Morrisons store supermarket. A petition with 1,372 names opposing the application has been gathered.
The development would have included a large Morrisons supermarket as well as moving the cricket pitch closer to the police headquarters and a junior football pitch, a senior pitch, and skate park being created. Councillors on Amber Valley’s planning board followed the planning officer’s recommendations.
Campaign group submitted a bid to adopt Nottingham Road Recreation Ground as a village green. If successful the land would be protected under the Commons Registration Act 2006 and would prevent development on the land.
