Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Preston Village, Brighton

Sainsbury's submitted plans to open a Sainsbury's Local on the disused former Caffyns car dealership site in Preston Road, Brighton in 2010. Shopkeepers opposed in the plans and local residents set up a facebook page

" No Sainsbury's in Preston Village".

In October, Brighton and Hove City Council refused the supermarket chain’s application to open a store because of concerns over how deliveries to the store could affect traffic on the main road. In February 2011 Sainsbury’s submitted new plans.  In April Councillors again refused permission because of transport issues.
