Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Nuneaton, Warwickshire

The Cock and Bear Inn shut in summer 2013. Residents believed that the pub was going to be transformed into a small Sainsbury's supermarket, with flats above and in August last year, a planning application was lodged with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. Permission was given but no further action took place.

However, in July another planning application has been submitted to the borough council from Punch Taverns for a single storey extensions to side and rear of the building, external stair case to rear and alterations to existing building (conversion of existing public house (A4) to retail space (A1), and alterations to existing outbuilding to form separate retail unit.
