Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Newport Pagnell, Bucks

In 2009 Tesco announced plans to build a new 14,000 square ft store in Newport Pagnell on the old Aston Martin site on Tickford Street.

Residents and traders in the town set up a campaign group " TESNO"  to oppose the plans and pointed to the fact that Tesco already has 10 stores within a 5 mile radius of the build location.

Over 500 people attended public information sessions to showcase Tesco's plans on the 24th-25th March 2009 and more than 5,000 people have signed a petition against the store.
