Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Midway, Staffordshire

Residents and shopkeepers against plans for a supermarket on the site of a former pub have said they are in limbo after a decision on its future has still not been made.

CDP Ltd had applied to South Derbyshire District Council for permission to turn the derelict Masons Arms, in Burton Road, Midway, into a convenience store, but faced massive public opposition citing the dangerous junction and small car park as problems. Agreeing with the planning officers’ recommendation for refusal, members of the council’s planning committee rejected plans.

However, the applicants took it to appeal and a hearing took place in August 2013.
