Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway

In October 2011 a planning application for houses on the site of the old creamery showed that half the area could be used for a retail store. At a public meeting residents agreed to lobby the council to keep the land on the banks of the River Dee zoned for industrial use in the hope jobs can be created. Kirkcudbright Chamber of Commerce, which organised the meeting, is leading the campaign against plans for a supermarket and houses.
