Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Ilford, Essex

An extraordinary regulatory committee was scheduled in April 2016 to hear Sainsbury’s proposal to redevelop its Roden Street store. Local residents had presented a petition to the Council urging members to block the Sainsbury’s development. The company wants to redesign the existing shop and build 700 homes above it.

Sainsbury's appealed the refusal and a hearing began in October 2017. Local residents are taking part in the hearing.
