Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Hythe, Kent

In November 2009 a new campaign group "Devstop and the Care About Hythe Group" was launched in response to Sainsbury's plan to build a vast new superstore. With only 15,000 residents, the small town already had 3 supermarkets (the same as neighboring Folkestone with 45,000 residents) and local residents feel Hythe has no need for another supermarket.
