Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Hay-on-Wye, Powys

Residents in Hay-on-Wye are concerned about plans by Powys County Council to sell off the site occupied by Hay-on-Wye county primary school to make way for a “retail development”. In return the developer, Gaufron Developments, would pay for a new school and youth and community hall to be built.

Powys County Council said its involvement in the deal is as landowners considering selling off the school. It would be the planning authority, the Brecon Beacons National Park, who would decide on the application.

Campaign group Plan-B was set up to campaign against the plans.
