Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Haworth,Bradford

More than 100 objections were lodged against plans for a Tesco in Haworth’s Royal Oak pub.Tesco announced its proposals to convert the Royal Oak, in Mill Hey, into a convenience store earlier this year.

Tesco's initial application to install a cash machine on the premises was refused by Bradford planners in September, but the latest application would involve alterations to parts of the building.

Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council have applied to have the Royal Oak declared Asset Capacity of Community Value, meaning the council would have the right to be consulted in the event of the building being sold off.
