Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire

200 people have signed a petition calling on the council to block plans to turn Grimsby's vacant Great Grimsby Conservative Association building into a Tesco Express.

North East Lincolnshire Council is due to make a decision on whether to grant the developer a Certificate of Lawfulness to the applicant – which would enable it to change the use of the building from a drinking establishment to a retail premises without having to apply for planning permission, by the end of September.

Residents are opposed to the plan, citing fears over traffic, noise and the impact on the character of the street, which is located within a conservation area.
