Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Flackwell Heath, Bucks

Over 1,000 residents signed a petition against plans for a Sainsbury's Local store. Shopkeepers in the village have said if the supermarket does open a store there it will ruin their trade.

One of the key reasons for the application's progress was an independent retail assessment by Strategic Perspectives, which says the role of the village centre “will be strengthened, rather than harmed by the proposed development”.
