Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Cottingham, East Riding

A major developer wants to build a 45,000sq ft supermarket at Cottingham. The store would be bigger than Morrisons in Beverley and a similar size to Waitrose in Willerby. It would include parking for 300 cars and a petrol station.

Businesses in Cottingham believe a supermarket would damage trade in the village and residents are concerned about the increased traffic. Two petitions objecting to the development attracted a combined total of 1,567 signatures.
