Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Clewer, Berkshire

Residents in Clewer opposed plans to turn The Three Elms pub into a Tesco Express. Opponents of the scheme presented a petition to the planning committee. However, the planning committee approved applications by Tesco concerning advertisement consent, the insertion of doors and windows, and the installation of bollards, an ATM machine, a security light and a canopy. Planning officers had recommended the panel refuse permission to install the cash machine and security light, but recommended approval for the other work.
