Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Caerleon, Newport

A planning application was submitted by Hillvale Properties to convert a pub, the Angel Inn, into a 385 sq m convenience store in the Roman village of Caerleon in 2011.  The pub is in the heart of the village.

In September 2011 a petition of 1,250 names against the plans was handed to a city councillor. Between 300 and 400 people attended a public meeting on the plans at Caerleon Town Hall.
