Tesco wants to alter layout and access to site

But Council chiefs called for an independent study into the turning circles on the site after the planning committee deferred its decision. Residents object to the proposed new vehicular access to the store, which they say is much tighter than the original plans and could be dangerous to pedestrians.

Sainsbury's given planning permission

Sainsbury's granted planning permission in Parade Court as part of a new apartment block, despite objections from residents. Initial plans for the McCarthy and Stone development were first rejected after residents complained the modern design was not in keeping with the area.

Public inquiry started

An inquiry was held but due to the controversial decision by the Regulatory and Appeals committee in February, the council did not hire lawyers to challenge Tesco at the hearing.

Councillors again refuse permission

Councillors again refused to accept plans for a new store, citing the impact it will have on village traders.

Plans approved

Councillors approved the application the Chair voted twice after using his first vote in a 3-3 split, swung the balance by using a 'casting' vote. This is permitted under the council's standing orders.

Plans refused

Councillors on Wycombe District Council’s Planning Committee were ‘minded to refuse’ by 9-2 on the grounds of the adverse affect the store would have on the village centre's current stores and transport networks the plans, and referred the scheme to the council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee.

Tesco submits plans

To demolish 86-88 in The Parade - the former police station - and convert into retail area. The plans also include two two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats above it.
